Story of Change

Payal Raut

Miss Payal was born into a farmer’s family and was affected by Cerebral Palsy (CP) from birth. However, her parents never saw her condition as a limitation and always supported her. Despite resistance from some family members, she was enrolled in the local village school.

She often faced taunts from society, with people saying that “she is disabled and does not need education.” Ignoring such negative attitudes, Payal remained determined. With consistent support from Rasikashraya, she continued her studies and successfully completed her education up to the 12th grade.

Later, when recruitment for the post of Postman was announced, Payal applied, appeared for the examination, and secured the position through her hard work. She served sincerely as a Postman for three years. In recognition of her dedication and performance, she was promoted, and today she is working as a Postmaster in Sayakhada.

Prashant Kalandre

Prashant’s life began with significant challenges. Due to polio, he developed a disability; however, he did not give up and completed his education up to the 12th standard with determination.

Later, he came in contact with Rasikashraya, which became a turning point in his life. He started working at the village level as a DPO member, where he gradually developed his leadership skills. With continued involvement, he went on to become the President of the Taluka Viklang Sangh (Block-level Disabled Persons’ Organisation). Working at different levels helped him build strong confidence and a sense of purpose.

Inspired by this journey, Prashant started his own catering business. With hard work, dedication, and perseverance, he successfully established and expanded his enterprise. Today, he is not only self-reliant but also providing employment to around 150 people. His business generates an annual net profit of approximately ₹12 to ₹15 lakh.

Prashant’s journey is a powerful example of how determination, the right support, and self-belief can transform challenges into meaningful success.

Sandip Chikte

Sandeep, around 27 years old, is a resident of Pandhurna (Kd) village and lives with his parents and siblings. He has Cerebral Palsy from birth, which limits his mobility. Despite these challenges, he completed his education up to Class 7 with the support of his brother, who used to take him to school on a handcart.

Due to lack of further education facilities in the village, he had to discontinue his studies. In 2010, he received training in greeting card making at Anandwan, Warora. Later, he joined Rasikashraya’s CBR Forum project, became a DPO member, and was eventually elected as its President.

With a loan of ₹20,000 from MHFDC, he started a small grocery shop, earning a steady daily income and repaying the loan through regular savings. He also supported other persons with disabilities in accessing entitlements and formed a Self-Help Group linked with MSRLM.

Through additional livelihood support, he expanded into goat rearing and later started a small food business. Along with supporting his family in farming, Sandeep has become self-reliant and a role model for others, demonstrating how determination can overcome adversity.
